Another Cavalcade Of Griffey Cards V

This card is my second Griffey card of 2017, and it is from the 2009 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions set and was a background variation of the base card. Griffey’s base card in the set has the same pose but the background is a sunrise (or sunset not sure) while this is the Moonlight Variation with a cloudy evening with a full moon behind him.
There were 15 cards with the Moonlight background and in addition to Griffey there was Ryne Sandberg, Grady Sizemore, Barrak Obama, Ozzie Smith, Tiger Woods, Ichiro, Gerry Lopez, Andy Pettitte, Cal Ripken Jr, Ryan Howard, Smarty Jones, Troy Tulowitzki, Chien-Ming Wang and Gordy Howe.
Had this card not been on my want list since 2009 I would not have bought it but it is one of those “I don’t know when I will see one again” type of cards.

Update For 2012 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions

Upper Deck products still get lost in the landscape of licensed products but over the years they have gotten collector’s attention with non-sports inserts in their Goodwin Champions releases. Many of them include museum quality items, fossils or entomology cards. We have seen DNA/hair, insects, fossils and even sand from Omaha Beach. This year they add to the list with Civil War Museum Relics, a collection of Civil War memorabilia. This year’s collection includes pieces of a Union battle flag from 1864, various buttons, insignias and logos from uniforms, pieces of a rifle, pieces of a soldier’s wallet and currency. They also came across some soldier’s ambrotypes, a precursor to photographs as we know them, and they will be inserted in to a specially designed shadowbox card.

I wouldn't mind getting a hold of one of those Museum Collection Confederate Currency shadowbox cards, I think UD did a nice job with the card design. It looks like the currency is sitting on a desk and highlights the money nicely.

This year Upper Deck will be including hand-painted 1888 Goodwin Champions cards, a 50-card set based on the original 1888 set and there will be 10 copies of each card. They have released a scan of a Cap Anson card.

I am looking forward to seeing some images from the It Came From Space! relics, an insert that will contain pieces of meteorites and other space items.

UD Entomology Redemptions To Be Filled

Upper Deck announced on their Twitter page today that all of the bugs for the Entomology cards from 2009 Goodwin Champion set have arrived and they will begin shipping soon. I am not sure how many redemptions there are for the set but this is some positive news considering many people never expected the redemptions to be filled.

Though I am not able to find any Entomology redemptions up for auction right now, I wonder if now that UD has announced that the redemptions will be filled if people will begin to put them up for sale. I always thought this was an interesting insert, obviously it is not for some collectors, but I have always liked the odd ball card sets.
