It Made An Appearance

A 2012 Topps Under Armour Trey Griffey autograph finally showed up for auction, ending yesterday at a unbelievable $51.01, especially when you consider that he was undrafted and is on the Dolphins practice squad. Jameis Winston and Dante Fowler Jr are both in the same 2012 set with the Fowler autograph selling around $25 and the Winston autograph around $70 so we know that Griffey’s selling price is not based on potential, but on his father’s legacy.

I was expecting the card to end around the $15 range, with about $10 of that being based on his father, but this final selling price has made me sad. I really was hoping to add this card to my University of Arizona collection, but I will not pay anything near $50 for the card.

Please, I Need Your Help

I have a card that I know is going to be an extremely difficult hunt so I am reaching out to the collecting community for some help. I am searching for a 2012 Topps Under Armour Trey Griffey autograph card. The cards were included in packs that were handed out to the first 3,000 who attended the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game and I have only seen a sample image (the card above) I have never seen a live copy but going off the other cards in the set I am figuring that there were 250-275 of Trey’s cards packed out.

Trey Griffey played at the University of Arizona so I am looking for this card for my U. of A. collection. He is signed with the Miami Dolphins but he is on their practice squad so this is currently his only card and unless he gets activated to the active roster I don't expect to see any of his cards in the near future.

I am kind of surprised that Upper Deck didn't try to get Ken Griffey Jr.'s son in to one of their recent college sets. Topps too, Trey was drafted by the Mariners in the 24th Round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft and if they could get Manziel as a Padre in the 2014 Bowman Chrome Draft set they could have gotten Trey as a Mariner in a Bowman Draft set.

Another Professional Griffey

Trey Griffey signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts yesterday becoming the third generation of the Griffey family to turn pro. Given Ken and Ken Jr. played baseball while Trey is playing football but that is neat to see another Griffey on the field.

Trey played at the University of Arizona so I have seen him play for the last couple of years. Last year he had 23 receptions for 382 yards and 2 touchdowns so at best he will be a third receiver and at worst he will be on the practice squad. I had hoped the Seahawks would select him with their 7th Round pick but I am happy to see him with the Colts.
