A Big Find For My Machete Collection

I enjoy Danny Trejo’s work and Machete and Machete Kills are two of my top films. My collection includes the 2013 Chop Shop Machete set and some of the promo cards, a Machete film poster, a mini autographed Machete Kills film poster and I have an 8x10 autograph of Cheech Marin and an 8x10 autograph of the Avellan twins. I felt that all that I am missing from the movies are a Michelle Rodriguez autograph (I am waiting to find an 8x10 where she signs with “Shé”) and Lindsay Lohan’s Geekroom autograph card.

I have finally picked up the Lindsay Lohan autograph. The Lohan autograph cards were issued encased by Beckett and you will usually find them posted in the $100-200 range, though they normally sit at that price before eventually selling in the $70-90 range. I was fortunate enough to find one of the Sister Booth cards that someone broke out of the Beckett case and the seller had it up for $29.99/OBO, I offered $25 and it was accepted plus free shipping.

A Set Worthy Of Including Danny Trejo

I am a Danny Trejo fan and I love Machete. Trejo is not a classical trained actor, he comes from the streets and the parts he plays are created specifically for him in mind. He isn’t the best actor in the world and his movies are not Top 100 films but in a world where it seems like every “Blockbuster” movie is either a sequel or reboot it is refreshing to watch Trejo jump out of a window using someone’s intestines as a rope.

I have been hunting for the 67-card Machete trading card set but most were priced $30 or more and I felt that was a bit outside of what I wanted to spend. One dealer had sets at $29.99 and I made a $20 offer and he declined my offer, only to drop it to $20.99 a week later. A couple of weeks later he dropped to $19.99 and I held up buying it because I was being thick headed about him declining my offer when he changed it within days. Anyway, he finally dropped the price to $16.99 with free shipping and I finally clicked the BIN button.

The set comes in a matchbox style packaging with a inner box that slides out. Inside the inner pack the cards are wrapped in a black sleeve. The back of the box includes the serial number, mine is #166/300

The first 50 cards make up scenes of the movie beginning in order at card #1 with the card backs describing the scene. Cards 51-66 are the character cards and the backs make up a 3x5 puzzle. The final card is a checklist and there is a Shé poster sticker.

On to the cards:
The good guys; Machete, Agent Sartana, Luz (also known as Shé), Padre and the Avellan twins as Nurse Mona and Nurse Lisa

Lindsay Lohan plays a character that switches roles as the movie progresses, beginning as the crack head (I know, a real stretch) April Booth but redeems herself as Sister April at the end of the movie.
The bad guys: Torrez, Booth, Von, Senator McLaughlin, Osiris and henchman (Surprisingly he has a large role in the movie)

The backs of cards 51-66 make up the Machete “Sandwich” scene with April and June

My Favorite Machete

One of my favorite actors in Danny Trejo, he is just one of those bad-ass “every man” type people. He started off in a less than ideal position in life going in and out of jail and using drugs but he eventually cut that part of his life out and has been clean for around 40 years. He has been type casted in to bad guy/gangbanger roles but in recent years he has taken on the anti-hero role in movies like Machete, which is one of my favorite movies, if you haven’t seen it and you like action and comedies you are in for a treat. I have a Machete movie poster above my computer and I want to add a Machete Kills poster but I don’t know which one yet.
In 2013 the production company Machete’s Chop Shop, they are the producers of the Machete movies, released a small card set (67-card checklist) in conjunction with the upcoming Machete Kills movie. There were only 300 sets printed and promo cards were handed out at the different comic-cons and this card is P4. I picked up this card for a little over $6 and seems to be the most common promo card available. I saw a P2 (The threesome version) card go for $11 recently beating out my max bid by .41 cents... Damn!!!

I still need to pick up a complete set, I have been watching one over the last few weeks that has dropped in price each time it is re-listed so I am waiting until it drops under $20 before purchasing it.
There are even Linday Lohan autograph cards but get ready to spend well over $100 to get one, there are two versions; April Booth and Sister April Booth

If anyone happens to have any of the Machete promo cards that were handed out at Wizard World conventions in Philadelphia (P1) New York City (P2) or Chicago (P3), I would love to make a trade if you are willing to let it go. Here are what the promo cards look like:
