Question Day - Card Gifting?

Today is question day:

Do you give or receive cards for Christmas or Hanukkah?

When my kids were younger, I would give them packs or blasters, but they are both in their teens now and neither collect anymore. I have never received cards for Christmas besides the occasional box I purchased for myself from a Black Friday weekend sale. I have received eBay gift cards, which I did use to purchase cards.

What I Got From My Trip To Mars

Each of the 2017 Topps Mars Attacks Revenge boxes includes the 110-card base set, 25 green parallels, one sketch card, one additional hit (autograph or medallion) and then a random selection of parallels. I did quite well with my box, I am very satisfied.

I am working on the Mars Attacks sets, now I will turn my attention towards the 2013 Invasion set and the 2015 Occupation set.

I got 25 Green border parallels

10 Yellow border parallels #/199
2 Red border parallels #/99

1 Black border parallel #/55

1 Bronze border parallel #/25

1 Gold border parallel #/2

1 Artist (Layron Dejarnette) Autograph parallel #/10
1 sketch card by Andrew Lopez

Are You Ready For Some Spring Football Leagues?

Today two semi-pro (?) football leagues made announcements. The XFL announced the locations of the 8 teams of the inaugural (2020) season. The other league, the Freedom Football League, which was founded by 50 former NFL players including Rickey Williams, Terrell Owens, Simeon Rice and Mike Alstott, announced the leagues foundation and the location of the 10 teams when the league begins.

So for the foreseeable future, Spring football will be quite packed. The Alliance of American Football begins in 2019, the XFL in 2020 and the Freedom Football League does not have a start date that I can find.

So, are you wondering about team locations?

AAF: If you want to see what the uniforms look like, the AAF posted them on their Twitter
Arizona Hotshots
Atlanta Legends
Birmingham Iron
Memphis Express
Orlando Apollos
Salt Lake Stallions
San Antonio Commanders
San Diego Fleet

New York
St. Louis
Tampa Bay
Washington, D.C.

Birmingham Kings
Connecticut Underground
Florida Strong
Oakland Panthers
Ohio Players
Oklahoma City Power
Portland Progress
San Diego Warriors
St. Louis Independence
Texas Revolution

Do any of these leagues have a chance to last in to a second season?

Seattle = NHL

Seattle was selected today for an NHL expansion team, they will begin play in the 2021-22 season. The name and colors have yet to be selected, but if you follow me on Twitter you may have seen me post up in discussions about the name. Initially I liked the idea of reviving Seattle’s original hockey team name, Metropolitans, but I have come around to Steelhead or Kraken. Colors would be an easy choice if the team selects a water related name, blues and maybe some greens.

The alignment hasn’t been decided either, but it is rumored that the Seattle team will be placed in the Pacific division and the Arizona Coyotes will be moved to the Central division.

Uni Watch ran a contest for uniform designs, and here are a couple that I like because of the color combinations,
Andrew Arena: Seattle Metropolitans
Michael Jarvie Jr. Here he used the name Greys (for Grey whales) but I could see this working for Steelhead too.

Jim Brester: Seattle Kraken

Nest stop…the NBA do the right thing and give Seattle an expansion team (Sonics reborn baby) and to balance the conferences, give Louisville an expansion team.

Question Day- Take Me Back

Today is question day:

If you left the hobby, what brought you back?

I quit collecting in 1987 and returned in 1993, it was the Shaq Attack that brought me back. I had two friends that weren’t really in to collecting but were also excited about Shaquille O’Neal and someone had told one of my friends that 1992-93 Stadium Club was the set to get. We went to two different cards shops, Northwest Trading Cards (still open in Federal Way and online) and another shop in Tukwila (long time closed) and would buy whatever packs we could get our hands on. We each eventually got a Shaq RC and I was hooked.
