Sports Card Super Bowl X

It is Super Bowl Sunday and once again the cards are going to make their prediction. Surprisingly the cards are 6-3 predicting the winner of the last 9 Super Bowls, 67% isn’t bad as a win ratio based on cardboard.

This year I selected 2 blasters (2019 Prizm & 2019 Donruss Elite) and a hanger box of 2019 Prestige.

Like before, if a player is in a Chiefs or 49ers uniform the card is still considered a score even if that player has been traded or cut. 

This year I have decided to break down the packs instead of boxes for quarters. With 10 regular packs and 1 2019 Prestige megapack I am going with 3 packs of Prizm for 1^st Quarter, 3 packs of Elite for 2^nd Quarter, 3 packs of Prizm for 3^rd Quarter and the Prestige megapack for the 4^th Quarter. The final Elite pack will be used in case of a OT. This year the scoring is:

Field Goal (3 pt.) For random cards that could be a sign or superstitious

Touchdown (7 pts.) For any player from the Chiefs or 49ers

TD w/ 2pt Conversion (8 puts.) For any Chiefs or 49ers hits

If the game goes to OT, the final pack break down will be 1 point for a team based on each Conference card. So, if I pull 3 players from NFC teams, the 49ers get 3 points and vice-versa.

The cards have the Kansas City Chiefs winning by a field goal (the Green Mahomes) after a late scoring flurry by the San Francisco 49ers. I had a dream that the 49ers sold their soul to win the Super Bowl so I am going with them for the win.

Sports Cards Super Bowl IX

It is Super Bowl Sunday and once again the cards are going to make their prediction. Surprisingly the cards are 6-2 predicting the winner of the last 8 Super Bowls, 75% isn’t bad as a win ration based on cardboard.

Normally I would pick up some blaster boxes from my local Walmart, but they recently remodeled and added a bunch of self-checkouts and the boxes are now stacked next to one of those checkouts and there are always people in the way. I turned to eBay and initially was looking for a cheap hobby box of 2018 Classic but settled on three mega boxes; 2018 Playoff, 2018 Prizm & 2018 Absolute.

Like before, if a player is in a Patriots or Rams uniform the card is still considered a score even if that player has been traded or cut.

Sports Cards Super Bowl VIII

It is Super Bowl Sunday so that means it is time for Sports Cards Super Bowl VIII. I've had no luck finding the repack Championship boxes anymore, so I have been just going the route of current product blasters. This year I have selected blasters of 2017 Optic and 2017 Prizm.

The scoring system has changed a little bit, because I am opening less packs I have increased the points per card. Like before, if a player is in a Patriots or Eagles uniform the card is still considered a score even if that player has been traded or cut.

There you go, the cards predict that former University of Arizona QB Nick Foles and the Eagles will blow out former University of Arizona teammate TE Rob Gronkoswki and the New England Patriots by a score of 21-0.

Now for my rebuttal, I don’t think that is how the game will end. I actually predict the Patriots will win 31-17 and I am hoping that Foles will play well enough that other teams will be coming to the Eagles with their hats in their hands and their wallets open trying to pry him away.

Sports Cards Super Bowl VII

With three hours left before kickoff it is time to let the cards decide who will come out on top between the high octane Falcons offense led by MVP Matt Ryan against the high octane Patriots offense led by MVP runner-up Tom Brady.

Like last year I decided to go with two blaster boxes, doubling up on 2016 Contenders, my Walmart is small and does not have a great selection and the only Target in the area is on the other side of town. Sadly I pulled 15 duplicates even though I bought the blasters a couple of weeks apart from each other. Pulling two packs worth of duplicates out of 10 packs really sucks. I also grabbed a hanger box of 2016 Optic Football in case there was a tie.

Well, there you go, the Patriots will add a 5th Championship trophy to their trophy case and the questions will begin flying about Tom Brady retiring the winningest Super Bowl QB.

I don't think the score will actually end up at just 10-3, at least I hope not, but the cards are just about figuring out which team will win, it isn't an exact science.

Does Cam Newton send notice to the rest of the league that he is ready to begin a Hall of Fame career with a championship?

Now on to Sports Cards Super Bowl IV  

The previous five years I picked up two Championship Football repack box which usually gave me around 25-30 repacks packs and I would tally up the points using the various cards to predict the outcome of the Super Bowl but this year none of the local Walmart stores had any of the Championship Football repack boxes and I was in a bit of a pickle. As I looked through the small section of sports cards and considered my options I wondered if I should skip the Sports Cards Super Bowl, ala the 1994 World Series, or call an audible. I called an audible and grabbed two blasters, one from Topps and one from Panini to try and get a bit of variety. This year the cards making the prediction are 2015 Topps Chrome Football and 2015 Panini Contenders Football.

This is my sixth year doing Sports Cards Super Bowl and I am 3-2 as a predictor, which probably would be good enough to win the AFC South Division. Here are the previous results:

A low scoring game that does not pick up until the 3^rd quarter but after a couple of field goals by the Broncos we see Cam Newton turn on the electricity and finally lead the Panthers to a touchdown but it will not be enough. Payton Manning ends his career with his second Super Bowl title and retires a champion.

 

 

Sports Cards Super Bowl V

Again, like last year, there is no question who I want to win but what the cards say may be something else.

Now on to Sports Cards Super Bowl V

 

I picked up two Championship Football repack boxes which contained 28 packs (with two being rack packs). Since last year I didn’t need the OT packs, which I would have used in case of a tie, I decided to just skip the extra cost and stuck with just the repack boxes. It should be noted that one of the packs is a 2012 Score New York Giants team set so I will only be opening 27 packs.

 

The products were made up of Topps, Panini and Sage HIT and range from 2010 through 2014. Five of the packs were clear cello, one 2013 Topps  and four 2013 Prizm, and the Prizm packs were some sort of “special” packs which contained 4 blue base Prizm cards, 1 blue insert and a Rated Rookie manufactured patch card. With Sage being a college product I will use any players drafted by the Seahawks or Patriots.

 

This is my fifth year doing Sports Cards Super Bowl and so far the cards are .500 as a predictor. Here are the previous results:

The game will go back and forth sitting at a tie at Halftime but New England will heat up and score a couple of second half TDs and pull away from the struggling Seahawks whose offense will only produce a couple of FGs. If this score holds out Tom Brady will win his 4^th Super Bowl which will elevate him to the level of Football God, tying him with Montana and Bradshaw for most championships.

I was off on the score but the same results in the end. There is major excitement in the Corky household tonight.

Sports Cards Super Bowl IV

 Before I begin ripping any packs I wanted to say, I am a lifelong Seahawks fan and I couldn't be more thrilled to see them back in the big game (with a bit of stress over which Russell Wilson is going to show up). Of course I am rooting for them and hope they take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. I am picking them to win, but lets see what the sports card say.

It is Super Bowl Sunday which means it is time for Sports Cards Super Bowl IV. I decided to pick up two Championship Football repack boxes this year to get a larger variety. I did pick up some additional 2013 products (Topps Magic and Panini Contenders) as OT packs in case of a tie or low score.

In total I will be opening 33 regular packs, 1 pack of 2012 Panini Football stickers and a number of Leaf Young Stars cards and inserts that were included in the boxes in penny sleeves. The packs range from 2010 through 2013 so I am hoping for a nice selection of current players. There are packs from Topps, Panini, Upper Deck, Leaf, SAGE and Press Pass. Since there are college packs I will include any players drafted by the Seahawks or Broncos.

I am also going to add in a Halftime to make tallying the score easier, this year it will be after the 16th pack.

After the Seahawks put up a couple of quick scores in the first half their offense goes lethargic while Peyton Manning and the Broncos heat up and come back strong in the third quarter before Seattle's Legion of Boom defense, led by Linebacker Bobby Wagner, shuts down Manning's air attack.
