It says something about the 2013 NFL rookie draft class when Leon Sandcastle rookie cards seem to be getting almost as much buzz as the real rookies.
Panini posted up pictures of Sandcastle’s 2013 Score rookie card a number of days ago and they have also announced that they will be including a Sandcastle autograph in the 2013 Prestige Football release in June. Topps has now posted up an image of their version of a Leon Sandcastle rookie card which will be included in the 2013 Bowman football release.
The Score version will be included in retail packs of 2013 Score Football when it releases later this month. The autographed Prestige version will only be included in hobby packs of 2013 Prestige Football when it releases in June.
The Bowman version will be included in the 2013 Bowman Football release in June. There is no information if it will be a retail or hobby exclusive, also it has not been stated if this will be part of the regular base set or if this will be a short print.
To be fair, at 45 years old, Deion Sanders may be as talented, if not more, than some of the guys that were drafted this year. It is fun to see the card companies get behind the joke, as well as the NFL and Underarmour, and hopefully things will play out with grace and the companies will move on and not turn the Sandcastle storyline in to an over done gimmick with new cards in every one of their 2013 football releases.
I would like to pick up one of the Score cards so I can put it in the binder next to my 1989 Score Deion Sanders rookie card.
