¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Johnny Manziel will be in Houston during the Super Bowl and he will be signing autographs for all his adoring fans. Crave Sports has set up the autograph signing for one hour each day on February 2nd and February 3rd at two different malls in Houston. And because Johnny Football is in such high demand you can expect to pay big bucks to fuel his addictions: $99 for an autograph and an additional $29 for an inscription. Want a photo with the train wreck? It will be $99 for a photo op or $50 for a selfie.

I am certain there will be hundreds of fans at each signing all willing to pay the $99+ to get his autograph at a live event. Just to break things down, let’s say 100 people show up for each 1-hour session, this means he will spend an average of 36 seconds with each person. Is paying $99 for half a minute with Manziel seem logical?

Now if I were even a fan there are plenty of options out there that would save time and money, though you do miss out on the 36 seconds of being in his vicinity and breathing the same air.

If 8x10 photos is your choice for autographs, this Panini Authentic Johnny Manziel Cleveland Browns autographed 8x10 that was signed at the 2014 National during Panini’s VIP party went for $15.50 w/ $4.50 shipping last week. There are currently two more up for auction for under $40 shipped.

If you are more a card autograph type of collector there is a very cool option in this 2014 Press Pass Gameday Gallery autograph #10/25. I think this is a nice looking card, limited and an on-card autograph. You cannot go wrong with this one and it isn’t bad at $20 w/ $3 shipping, this would be my choice.

Should We Believe Preseason Hype?

It is time to begin stocking up on Geno Smith rookie cards.

Following a recent poll of NFL coaches and execs regarding next season’s potential starting NFL QBs Geno Smith was rated as the #32 ranked quarterback. His response, "If I'm No. 32, by this time next year or the year after, I expect to be in the top 5."

The poll ranked QBs in four tiers with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Andrew Luck rounding out Tier 1 as the Top 5 QBs. So apparently Smith, who threw for 3,046 yards, 12 TDs and 21 INTs for an NFL worst 66.5 QB rating, plans on over taking Andrew Luck (the #5 Ranked QB), who threw for 3,822 yards, 23 TDs, 9 INTs and a 87.0 QB rating.

Geno Smith had some good outings last year, in the Jets 8 wins Smith threw 10 TDs compared to 5 INTs and an 89.6 QB rating. On the flip side in the Jets 8 losses he threw 2 TDs compared to 16 INTs and a 39.6 QB rating and includes two games with 0 TDs and 3 INTs and two games with a QB rating of 10.1 or less. At this point he isn't even the best QB on the Jets roster.

I don’t doubt he has the ability to get better but then so did Mark Sanchez, who got better over his first three seasons before collapsing on 2012. I think Smith’s biggest obstacle to overcome will be the Jets themselves.

I think we can hold off on rushing to snatch up Smith’s cards, I seriously doubt he will be a Top 5 QB within the next two years unless 27 other QBs suddenly succumb to a 17-week flu.

At least he isn’t like some of the other Jets players like CB Dee Miliner claiming to be the #1 player at his position, even though he only played in 13 games and was benched multiple times, or like LB Calvin Pace who claims the Jets have the league’s best defense, even though they were ranked #20 last year, #19 in 2012 and #20 in 2011.

To add insult to injury Michael Vick yesterday said that he feels that Geno Smith is 10% better than last year. When you consider that Smith was a hyped up rookie you would expect a significantly better than 10% increase in skill. He should be running the First Team with precision now, not still learning how to read defenses and run through progressions.

The Ramblings Of A Pseudofan

I took my son to a Mariners-Cubs Cactus League game Friday afternoon and the “ultimate” Cubs fan was sitting behind me talking crap the whole game. She talked about how she is all about the Cubs and is a true die-hard fan her whole life even saying she “Lives and breaths Cubs”.

Here are a couple of excerpts that made it out of her mouth… yes, I said her mouth.

Cubbie Fan: The Cubbies look great this year, it could be their year!

Cubbie Fan: Look to see the Cubs win the division and maybe even the NL Championship!

Cubbie Fan Friend: Hey… who are some of the young players we should be watching on the field this year?
Cubbie Fan: I don’t know, I don’t pay any attention to the players
Cubbie Fan: Oh wait, Kerry Wood has been winning some big games for us lately watch for him to lead the Cubs in wins this year.

Cubbie Fan Friend: Who was that? (After Starlin Castro knocked in a 3-run double in the 7th to rally the Cubs)
Cubbie Fan: I don’t know, must be some new guy but he is cute.

Gotta love true sports fans, she may not know that Kerry Wood is 9-11 over the last two years… oh and hasn’t played for the Cubs since 2008, and she may not know who one of the most promising 2010 rookies is but she knows he is cute. At least it was entertaining, more entertaining than watching the Mariners blow a 3-2 lead in the 7th inning.

What Would You Do?

I understand that when your team is in the champion game you some times feel like you would be willing to do anything to get tickets for the game. Apparently there are some people who just ignore all moral judgments and just go straight for the gutter in attempts to earn those tickets. Is the World Series worth a threesome?

Susan Finkelstein of Philadelphia was arrested Tuesday after taking out a Craiglist ad offering sex in exchange for tickets. Her lawyer, in typical fashion, pointed out that while she might have “dropped double entendres in her ad, she never explicitly offered sex”. You have to love lawyers the way they can make the most offensive situation seem less lewd.

What is more obscene, the ad being posted in the first place or that the poster is a 43-year old Univ. of Penn Graduate student who wanted to take her husband to a game?
