Some Sea-Town Pickups

My day has been a long one and I planned on posting earlier but my Prism tv service went down and I ended up on the phone with a rep for nearly an hour. Sadly I told him it was an issue with the router and that it needed to be replaced when I first talked to him but we had to go through the steps anyway. So now a tech is set to be here tomorrow morning and before long I got sidetracked doing some research and I realized I forgot to post.

Here are a couple of recent pickups of Seattle athletes just for fun

1995 SP Legendary Cuts Jay Buhner Legendary Lineage Patch #50

Any time I can add a bad ass Bone patch to my collection for under $7 shipped I am cool with it. The card would be ideal for his signature under the patch but there is no way I am sending this for a TTM request. I have sent a number of requests to Buhner and he has never responded so if anything it would be one to bring to a show to get him to sign if he ever does a show in the Phoenix area.

2013 Bowman Inception Mike Zunino Blue parallel #/75
I love the Inception releases and this one has been on my list for a number of years so I am happy to add this to my Zunino collection.

1997-98 Metal Univese Gary Payton Silver Slams
Gary Payton is one of those athletes that I am considering adding as a PC but I don’t want to have to many player collections, not to mention Payton’s cards can be high dollar. I love this card because it has a pinkish/purplish hue and it really stands out.

This was a TTM/IP autograph that I picked up. I am really picky about what signatures I get just because they can be easily faked so I check every swoop, loop and twist before I consider buying something like this which I did and felt comfortable.

Lets Go Mojo...

I picked up this 2012 Leaf Metal Draft Mike Zunino autograph in February as the second piece of my Zunino trifecta, I still need to pick up a relic card, but I felt that now would be a good time to post up something about the Mariners catcher because he needs some major mojo going in to tonight’s game against the Angels. In the first two games he is currently 0-6 with a strike out, not a great start especially after last year’s mundane season where he had a .199 batting average and had more strike outs (158) than hits (87).

The card is the metal foil background that Leaf likes to use so it doesn’t scan very well, it actually reflects back everything during the scan and looks all scratched up but the card is beautiful in hand. I took a picture so you can see how it truly looks.

Shine On You Beautiful Catcher

One of the young Seattle Mariners that I am building a collection around is Mike Zunino. The catcher position doesn’t seem to get the love that a lights out pitcher or hard hitting outfielder gets but Seattle fans love their backstops. Guys like Dave Valle, Dan Wilson and Kenji Johjima were always in the hearts of Mariners fans and Zunino is continuing that role.

I have a couple of Zunino cards and while I am looking to add a relic for a Zunino trifecta I have also been watching this 2013 Leaf Rookie Retro Genetic Matrix card for about a year. Initially the seller had it at $9.99 earlier this year and sold a couple but he eventually dropped it to $7.99 and finally $4.99 a couple of months ago. He was down to 1 left so I finally bought it to add it to my Mariners collection.

I have a couple of these Leaf Rookie Retro Genetic Matrix card, so far 6 total include a Puig, Te’o and Geno Smith. I am a just a sucker for these cards and as long as I can get a deal I don’t mind adding some to my collection. I eventually want to add a Lillard to my collection, after that I don’t know if I want to just complete the set or cherry pick players.

Lets Talk Baseball!!!

Baseball playoffs, Mariners and cards…

So what better way to show my team support (only 1 1/2 out of the second Wild Card spot) than picking up some cards of the team's young prospect? Along with the Walker orange mini I got in a trade I have added a couple of Mike Zunino’s rookie cards: a 2013 Topps Chrome Purple refractor and a 2013 Topps Update.

And just for fun I picked up this 2014 Topps Charlie Brown All-Star card. The back bio paints a pretty grim tale about Chuck’s career. Did you know he has never struck anyone out even though he has been playing baseball for 53 years?
