Now What Could Go Wrong With This Situation II

Three weeks ago I wrote a follow up post to the original “What Could Go Wrong…” detailing what eventually did go wrong with the Jets creating a media circus when they brought in Tim Tebow. I closed the post by jokingly suggesting that I could turn this story in to an annual serial covering the destruction that comes from Woody Johnson’s circus. Little did I realize at the time that I would actually be writing a second “What Could Go Wrong…” following the NFL Draft.

Even though the Jets have serious needs to rebuild the team, Johnson and GM John Idzik decided to once again add a quarterback to their roster. How do you make a grease fire worse? You throw water on it or in this case add another player to an overloaded position.

So begin with 4 quarterbacks who can not get the job done: McElroy, Sanchez, Tebow and Simms

Add a dash of a 102-year old quarterback who has been out of the game since the FDR Administration: Gerrard

And top with a kid who was dissed by every team in the NFL Draft before getting picked up by the scrubs: Smith

I kind of feel bad for Geno Smith, the kid got ignored yesterday and this was after some early mock drafts even had his as high as #1 pick, but then he gets drafted by the Jets. How could he make things any worse? In his first interview as a Jet he takes a page from his dumbass coach Rex Ryan and says "We're going to make the playoffs."

Personally I feel that if this was a situation where Gerrard had the reigns and McElroy and Smith were the backups I think that Smith could have taken a year or two under Gerrard before taking over as the franchise leader but there is no way this will happen as long as Ryan is still the coach.

So once again I ask:
Is there any way that this scenario does not end in someone losing their job at the end of next season due directly to these personal pickups?

The Circus Formerly Known As The New York Jets

Last year I wrote a post after the NY Jets traded for Tim Tebow entitled “Now What Could Go Wrong with This Situation?”
I began thread with this question:

Is there any way that this scenario does not end in someone losing their job at the end of next season due directly to this trade?

The short answer was “No” Two coaches and the GM were fired over a 9 day period, one coach retired and one coach left to work with the Buffalo Bills.
FIRED:
GM Mike Tannenbaum
Offensive Coordinator Tony Sparano
QB Coach Matt Cavanaugh
RETIRED:
Special Teams Coordinator Mike Westhoff
HIRED BY ANOTHER TEAM
Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine

Oddly enough if you look at this list you will notice the one name that should have been the first person fired is missing, Rex Ryan (and owner Woody Johnson, but that dipshit can’t be fired).
Ryan stuck with Sanchez even though he continued to slump through the season (butt fumble anyone?) and when Sanchez was replaced it was with the #3 QB McElroy. Near the end of the season there was the rumor that Tebow told Ryan not to play him, even in a Wildcat situation. Then there was the Daily News story last November where a number of Jets players who all stated to some degree that they felt Tebow was not a good QB and that he was not making positive strides. This shows that the team and officials had no confidence in him.
To be fair, Tebow was never given a fair shake in New York. Woody Johnson (no matter what he claims) brought Tebow in for the media circus he would provide. He played roughly 40-50 offensive snaps all season, went 6-8 for 39 yards passing and added 102 rushing yards.
Now it is expected that the Jets will either cut or trade Tebow and possibly Sanchez. Currently neither Tebow nor Sanchez carry much in trade value, especially considering Sanchez’s salary, so I would expect to see one or both cut. Tebow could possibly end up some where as a back up, Seattle and New England have been mentioned, while Sanchez will probably end up back in California trying to bag USC groupies with Matt Leinart. The Jets have already begun the 2013 Jets Media Circus Extravaganza when they brought in 35-year old David Garrard, who hasn’t played since 2010 but is still expected to be slotted as the starting QB next season. I have also seen some draft experts projecting the Jets as drafting a QB, Geno Smith if he is still available at the #9 position or Matt Barkley (I shit you not… another crappy USC project QB) in the Second Round.
So, as Woody Johnson sits in his tower overlooking Metropolis his decision to cause a media sensation by bringing in Tebow has destroyed the livelihood of four coaches, one GM and Tim Tebow all while claiming clean hands with his dumbass lackey Rex Ryan sitting at his side standing clear of the madness.

Who knows, maybe I should make this a recurring storyline where I ask which NY Jets personnel will get fired following each season after Woody Johnson’s annual media circus blitz.

Now What Could Go Wrong With This Situation?

Before I go in to my personal reflection of this situation I have to ask…

Is there any way that this scenario does not end in someone losing their job at the end of next season due directly to this trade?

This afternoon, after a couple days of guessing and rumors, the NY Jets have pulled the trigger on a trade with the Denver Broncos for celebrity RB QB Tim Tebow. The Jets are giving the Broncos their 4th and 6th Round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft and in return get Tebow and the Broncos 7th Round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Looking from the outside in on this trade you have to admit it is a circus plain and simple. The Jets are a team that is dysfunctional that is going to get significantly more dysfunctional.

Mr. Sanchez is a player looking to get paid and laid and came off of his worst season yet and to show their lack of support the Jets went after Peyton Manning. When that fell through, to appease the thin-skinned QB, they offered up an extension on his contract, which he still had two years left remaining.

The locker room is split and possibly shattered and when back-up (possibly out of a job now) QB Greg McElroy talked about it on the radio after the season the team tried to play it off like McElroy was just talking to make a name for himself, but all anyone had to do was watch the Twitter spat between Sanchez and Holmes and you know something is seriously wrong in the land of Oz.

Now toss in a Head Coach who tried to re-invigorate the team late last season with the Wildcat offense and a new Offensive Coordinator in Tony Sparano, who made the Wildcat work wonders in Miami, and suddenly it appears that the game plan is going to be altered to use the abilities of Tebow.

So here we have a broken team, a QB with no support or confidence, an incoming QB who’s abilities favors the potentially new offense and things are going to get F*&%#D quickly. To add to the fracture, Tebow was a starting QB and you can be assured he is coming in to New York expecting to have a fair chance at earning the Jets starting job while the team's management knows they have to avoid any QB conflict or they will completely loose Sanchez, whose confidence will be wavering.

While John Elway may have feigned support for Tebow in Denver (proving his true feelings the minute Manning showed up in town) another Hall of Fame QB is not sharing the same sentiment. Broadway Joe, speaking to ESPN NY 1050 today, stated his feelings about the potential trade. He said that he felt that this was an entire publicity stunt by the Jets and that bringing in Tebow could hurt the team and would add serious pressure on Mark Sanchez especially coming on the heels of the team signing QB Drew Stanton the other day.

Does anyone else find it funny that the Jets now have two QBs who could not be any more morally different with one who is a Party Boy and another who has solid Christian values?
