Today is
question day:
Do you give or receive cards for
Christmas or Hanukkah?
When my
kids were younger, I would give them packs or blasters, but they are both in
their teens now and neither collect anymore. I have never received cards for
Christmas besides the occasional box I purchased for myself from a Black Friday
weekend sale. I have received eBay gift cards, which I did use to purchase
cards.
The only cards I ever remember getting as holiday gifts when I was a kid came in my Easter baskets. I got a few packs in them circa 1959/1960. I remember those especially.
ReplyDeleteI might have stuck some packs in my boys' Xmas stockings when they were collectors. I can't remember specifically but I'm the designated family 'stocking stuffer guy' and it seems like I would have.
I did get them a set of the Topps Now autographed World Series sets last year since they are such big Astros fans. The sets were part of bigger Astros-related gift packages we put together for them.
When I was a kid I used to get cards for holidays. As an adult, I do not get them unless I buy them for myself.
ReplyDeleteMy wife has gotten me a box of the Topps Holiday cards each of the last couple of years and my boys have picked up a couple packs for birthdays but I typically don't get too much. Would love to see family members hit up my blog want list and fill some gaps but I fear that ship has sailed.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger & the new year cards were starting to come out around Christmas time, I occasionally got some packs. I remember getting packs of 1990 Donruss for Christmas in 1989 and being really excited to pull a Julio Machado rookie card. Boy, did those get to be unexciting very quickly. 😆
ReplyDeleteAs an adult, I will occasionally pass on Mets doubles to friends that are fans more than card collectors as a "stocking stuffer" type gift, but that's about the extent of it.
As a kid, I remember getting stuff like a factory set of 1990 Score.
ReplyDeleteIn recent years, I ask my folks and in-laws for a hobby box or two since I usually don't have much else to put on my Christmas List and they appreciate me giving them gift ideas.
Not counting trader buddies, I don't really give cards as gifts, (though I would love it if I had a nephew or something who collected, but nope). I gave a few Oregon Ducks football cards to my sister-in-law a couple years back, as she's a big Ducks fan. She's not a collector, but she seemed happy with them.
I do at every occasion. My family contributes more cards to my collection than I do!
ReplyDeleteMy wife and father-in-law have gifted me cards but nothing big, just a few packs. Appreciated just the same.
