The Football Die Has Been Cast

Talk about a stressful game yesterday, I was on the edge of my seat the entire Seahawks-49ers game. As a Seahawks fan the end of the game was the worst for me, here is the range of my emotions in the last minute of the 4th Quarter:

With 28 seconds left in the game and the ball leaves Kaepernick’s hand

With 22 seconds left and the ball falls in to Malcolm Smith’s hand for the interception to send the Seahawks to the Super Bowl

Did anyone else think it was weird that the 49ers called two timeouts in the last 20 seconds when the Seahawks were kneeling down and running the clock out? I don't understand the logic in that decision.

  1. By calling the final couple of timeouts, the Seahawks are forced to snap the ball a couple more times, with a tiny probability that they might fumble one of those snaps and give the 49ers a chance to recover the ball. It's a tiny chance, but it is a chance. That's my understanding of it, at least.

    1. I didn't think about that, kind of along the lines of the Miracle at the Meadowlands fumble.

  2. I was totally stressed out over the game. First it was the stress of the Hawks digging themselves out of the hole they made for themselves. And when things finally started turning around in the 2nd half... I kept thinking the Niners would come back. Kudos to Sherman for that awesome play... now if he could just figure out how to keep his mouth shut in front of the cameras ;-)
