The Art Gallery: 2008 Topps Indiana Jones Masterpieces Henry Jones

This month’s Art Gallery display comes from the 2008 Topps Indiana Jones Masterpiece release. The artist is Jeff Booth, I am unable to find any information about the artist though. This is my second Indiana Jones Masterpiece sketch and like my other card from the release it depicts a stern Indy. This card was also $4 cheaper than my other Indy card and I think this one is much cooler because there is more detail.

The Art Gallery: 2008 Topps Indiana Jones Masterpieces

This month’s Art Gallery display is from the 2008 Topps Indiana Jones Masterpieces release. The artist is Brent Woodside, a freelance illustrator who has worked with Topps on a couple of occasions including Star Wars sketch cards, Lord of the Rings sketch cards and two different Indiana Jones releases.

When I was looking for an Indiana Jones sketch card, one of my favorite movies as a kid, I wanted to get a card depicting Indiana Jones and I wanted it to be from the Masterpieces release because I did not cards for the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie. This limited my search, and it took roughly a year to find a card that fit within my sketch card parameters of reasonable price, specific subject matter and correct release. I finally found this beauty a few months ago for around $6 shipped.

Many of the lower priced cards are rather generic, there are plenty of skulls, natives and monkeys. You can also find a number of Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf’s character) which I didn’t cards for his character. There are quite a few amazing Indiana Jones cards featuring Indy but they are quite expensive so this find was special.

The one thing that I do not like about the two Indiana Jones sketch cards releases is that so many are similar. If you do a search and you begin with the lowest priced cards you will see card after card after card that are almost identical except a line changed here or a color added there. The cool thing about this card is every detail about Indy is there right down to the scruff of his beard.
