Crash It

With the release of 2016 Topps Archives we are seeing the Bull Durham inserts hitting eBay. One thing that you will notice is that the 7-card base checklist does not include Susan Sarandon’s Annie or Kevin Costner’s Crash Davis. The only way to get Annie or Crash is to pick up the autographed versions and you can expect to pay close to $700 or more in that case.

But don’t be disappointed because you can get your Crash Davis fill elsewhere for a reasonable price. In 1988 Star included Kevin Costner in their Durham Bulls minor league release, actually there are different versions depending on which Star set you get, there was Blue, Orange, Blue/Orange and Gold versions. I picked up this blue version, I think the blue design matches better with the uniform, for a couple of bucks.

Other options include a 1988 Gatorade 4-card set, about $8-10 for the complete set, and Leaf included two Kevin Costner autographs (One as Crash Davis and one as Ray Kinsella from Field of Dreams) in their Leaf Trinity set last year with those running about $115 and up.

Topps Crashes The Kevin Costner Party

Last week Leaf released preview images of Kevin Costner’s on-card autographs that will be packed out when 2015 Leaf Trinity Baseball is released this month and this week Topps has previewed on their Instagram account their Kevin Costner on-card autograph that will be inserted in to packs of 2016 Topps Archives Baseball.

Leaf’s versions will depict Costner as his characters from his three baseball movies; Bull Durham, Field Of Dreams and For The Love Of The Game. Topps will have a Bull Durham autograph checklist which has not been fully announced outside of Kevin Costner’s Crash Davis.

Leaf Adds Some Costner

When it comes to Brian Grey and Leaf you never know what to expect and when 2015 Leaf Trinity Baseball hits shelves next month there will be special artistic Kevin Costner autograph cards inserted randomly. The cards are based on Costner’s three baseball movies Bull Durham, Field OF Dreams and For The Love Of The Game. So far only the Crash Davis and Ray Kinsella card have been previews on Leaf’s Twitter page.

My favorite of the three is Bull Durham, who doesn't love the character Crash Davis? I would love the Crash Davis version but I expect these cards to be well outside of my price range. Also, if you haven't seen For The Love Of The Game and you are a baseball nut there is an easter egg at the end where you take a quiz and when you get the answers all correct there is an old unseen video clip of Babe Ruth from the 1920s or 30s that is well worth watching the movie. I watched the movie when it came out on DVD solely to see the Babe Ruth clip.
