RIP Sam Simon

Yesterday the world lost another pop culture icon with the passing of Sam Simon to colon cancer at the age of 59 years old. Sam Simon, who is best known as co-creator of The Simpsons, won 9 Emmy Awards and his accomplishments over the years include working in various positions on Heckle & Jeckle, Taxi, Fat Albert, Cheers, The Drew Carey Show, The Tracy Ullman Show, Friends, Anger Management (TV show) and the 1991 Joe Pesci film “The Super”

In 1993 he retired from The Simpsons and focused on philanthropy. He founded the Sam Simon Foundation that rescues dogs, he is also tied to PETA, Save The Children and The Sea Shepherd Conservation.

For someone who was connected to the longest running scripted show he has not been included on any checklist of any set, which is kind of surprising. Sadly Matt Groening, the other creator of the Simpsons is not included on any checklists either sort of an injustice.

Simon made one appearance in the The Simpsons for the 138th Episode Spectacular, depicted as a Howard Hughes type character.
