The Corrected Error I May Never Own, Even Though I Already Kinda Do

This year Topps had two errors with their Topps Now releases, the first being card #264 John/Jose Harrison error which eventually led to a lawsuit being filed against Topps after they corrected the error in the artwork prior to printing the card and sending out the corrected Josh Harrison cards to buyers.

The second error was a mix up with cards #474 and #483 where Mookie Betts and Nomar Carciaparra appeared on the front of both cards instead of Carlos Correa and Alex Rodriguez on card #474. They didn’t say why but Topps decided to ship the error card #474 with the wrong image, my guess is based on the previous lawsuit and they wanted to ensure the cards got out in a timely manner.

But it now appears that Topps has gone back and printed card #264 with the name John Harrison and card #474 with Carolos Correa and Alex Rodriguez on the front and they are sending them out to buyers. I am not sure of this process and how the shipments are working but there are currently two #264 John Harrison error cards and they are priced at $100 and $5,000. There are three of the corrected versions of card #474 Carlos Correa/Alex Rodriguez and they are priced at $225, $300 and $300. There are no sales of either of these re-printed cards.

I did purchase the card through a seller on eBay as a pre-sell so I may be out of luck getting the corrected card for my Mariners collection but I did send an email to the seller and explained things so hopefully he will be willing to send on the card to me.

A Complete Set Of Mariners 2016 Topps Now Cards

Now that I have received the final card that I needed yesterday my 2016 Topps Now baseball team collection is complete with all 16 Mariners, including both of Griffey’s cards, plus I have two Ichiro cards. I finally gave in and purchased the Chris Iannetta #67 but the rest of the cards I either paid the $9.99 Topps price or less when I go the eBay route when you pre-purchase them usually they sell at $6 or $7 dollars before the release numbers are announced. My collection includes the error card #474 which was supposed to be Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Correa but instead includes Nomar Garciaparra and Mookie Betts on the front but the correct back so I am including it as a Mariner card.

Next year I don't think I will chase all of the Mariners card, instead sticking to just specific events and maybe a team card if there is one.

The 2016 Mariners checklist:

#16 Dae-Ho Lee

#25 Hirashi Iwakuma

#67 Chris Iannetta

#97 Leonys Martin

#120 Seattle Mariners

#178 Adam Lind

#263 Adam Lind

#268 Leonys Martin

#281 Ken Griffey Jr HOF

#408 Pat Venditte

#453 Taijuan Walker

#474 Alex Rodriguez/Carlos Correa

Why Yes Topps, It Is Your Bad

When Topps offered Topps Now on-demand printing it seemed like there was a universal understanding that the card would only be offered for 24 hours and would be printed and delivered within a timely manner, apparently “without error” was not included in the unspoken agreement.

I just received my Carlos Correa/Alex Rodriguez card and whoops the wrong picture was used. Instead card #474 was printed with the images of card #483 which is Mookie Betts and Nomar Garciaparra. The text and date are correct on the front of card #474 as well as the correct back but the wrong image and team logos were used. Card #483, which is supposed to have Betts and Nomar is correct without error.

I was torn on ordering this card but in my need to be a completest I bought it so I would have the complete Mariners set for the 2016 Topps Now set not to mention I only paid $6.99 on a pre-sale through an eBay seller so it isn’t as bad as paying the $10 cost through Topps’ site. So far Topps has not made an announcement on what they plan to do with a correction, or even if they will do a correction.

And for those in Florida, hunker down and stay safe.
