Yesterday the world lost another pop culture icon with the passing of Sam
Simon to colon cancer at the age of 59 years old. Sam Simon, who is best known
as co-creator of The Simpsons, won 9 Emmy Awards and his
accomplishments over the years include working in various positions on Heckle
& Jeckle, Taxi, Fat Albert, Cheers, The Drew Carey Show, The Tracy Ullman
Show, Friends, Anger Management (TV show) and the 1991 Joe Pesci film “The
Super”
In 1993 he retired from The Simpsons and focused on philanthropy. He founded the
Sam Simon Foundation that rescues dogs, he is also tied to PETA, Save The
Children and The Sea Shepherd Conservation.
Simon made one appearance in the The Simpsons for the 138th Episode Spectacular, depicted as a Howard Hughes type character.
